Upgrading of School communal areas to meet latest Fire regulations

We approached the time for the work to start with great trepidation, the logistics for closing off staircases, having contractors on site with their tools, allowing access to certain parts of staircases and not others seemed almost insurmountable. However I would like to commend your staff for making this the least disruptive, easiest contract we have ever been involved with. Bob King, Senior Contracts Manager and Tony Robarts, Site Foreman were a joy to work with; the contract ran smoothly, we were kept informed at all times, timescales and any areas that were proving difficult were always discussed, children were never put at risk, staff were never disrupted and all in all everything went extremely smoothly.

Thank you so much for all your help in making what could have been a very difficult contract into a smooth running least disruptive contract with an excellent high quality of workmanship. We are very satisfied with the quality of work, and the team that carried out the work and would thoroughly recommend your company.

Extensions to and Refurbishment of Church buildings

We want to thank Newland for the excellent work you did, and for your help throughout the project. Users of the building, including church, voluntary groups and community professionals are unanimously enthusiastic about the end result.

Darren Betts deserves particular mention. He faced some very difficult situations with outstanding commitment, resourcefulness, expertise and good grace. His refrain of “We’re getting there” will long be remembered.

So we are very grateful to Darren, and to yourself, Paul. Our best wishes for the future success of Newland Construction. We would be happy to show North Bank to your prospective clients if you wish.

Extension & refurbishment of listed building

Newland Construction Ltd provided a very professional and good value service for The Paper Trail. They worked closely with our project team, the architects and surveyors to achieve an impressive result within a negotiated budget and to an agreed timescale. They accommodated alterations to the project as it developed and we were impressed by the close management of the project by their project manager. This was a Heritage Lottery Funded project which imposed certain process constraints which Newlands helpfully accommodated.

Overall we are very pleased with our new building which is well-finished, sustainable, fit for purpose and attracts many favourable comments.

Refurbishment of Hospital Clinic

On behalf of the Northgate staff I’d like to convey our thanks to you all for the decorative improvements you have achieved over many months of work at the clinic.

We have witnessed the hours of hard physical labour, the skilled craftsmanship and technical ability

As two teams with different work assignments I feel we have successfully managed to work alongside each other with tolerance and flexibility. Thank you for the inobtrusiveness and good humour that has meant that despite the disruption and upheaval we have continued to be co-operative and liaise together to reach this positive conclusion.

The overall result is a clean fresh working environment and practical living space for staff, patients and visitors to benefit from. We intend to look after the building and appreciate the efforts you have put into the refurbishment, and attention to detail. All the best for your future projects.

Refurbishment of Mental Health Trust Ward

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our ward so beautiful.

Where do I start, well it all started last September when I was asked to meet a man named Keith on Avon Ward early September to walk around the ward to talk about what we needed when the ward was being refurbished, well I thought a lick of paint and a sluice sink and I would be happy.

My first impression of Keith was “gosh he is not taking any notes of what I am telling him I need” and 4 months later we have the most beautiful ward ever. Every single thing that I said he had made a note of it in his head. Keith you and your team have been just wonderful, you have made a beautiful environment for the Service Users of Barnet Enfield & Haringey and for the multi disciplinary team on Avon Ward.

Your skills knowledge and experience were beyond doubt first class. Every question I asked over the months you explained over and over again to me. Your knowledge of infection control amazed me and what we needed to ensure CQC compliance was top of your agenda.

You were so patient and kind to us nurses every time we asked a question which at times were irrelevant in the grand scheme of things but Keith always took time out to listen and to explain in great detail to us.

The bedrooms, the bathrooms, the sitting rooms, the kitchen, the clinic room, the offices and the sluice room are top class jobs everything is so user friendly. The notice boards and the pictures are hung so neatly, when I was being asked where I wanted them the men that were hanging the pictures and notice boards took such care and precision in the manner they hung them.

Every one of your lads were hard working and polite and friendly they were a joy to be around any time I had reason to go on the ward. Customer Service/Satisfaction seems to be top of all your agendas. Newlands should feel so proud to have a team of people who improve patient’s lives. I nearly forgot to mention late last Friday evening when we moved back there was a minor problem on the ward so I rang Keith for advice.

I did not realise how late it was and Keith I think was in Welwyn Garden City. It was cold, it was snowing but he turned around and came all the way back to the Dennis Scott Unit and rectified the problem immediately and then phoned me at home to reassure me that it was rectified. That’s a service that Newlands should be proud off.

I really could go on forever, your attention to detail shows in every part of our lovely ward, the team have been so helpful and hard working, I wish you all on behalf of the entire ward every good wish for the future and I am sure you will make a lot of other people very happy with your skills, knowledge and experience. Thank you all so much.

St. Cross Apartments

Dear Andrew

Re : St. Cross Apartments - Chambers View

On a couple of fine days, when the light was especially good, I took a few extra photographs of St. Cross. Cathy will transfer them onto a disc and we will send you a copy in the post.

The celebration party after handing over the keys went well. I think we were all wandering around with fixed grins on our faces. It was particularly satisfying to see how pleased Mike and Brian are with the completed scheme.

It is without doubt Newland Construction can be proud of their part in the project. Special thanks must to to Ian for his control over the quality, workmanship and site organization, and to yourself for overall management and generally driving the pace of the job.

Please accept my best wishes for the future. Hopefully your next project will be equally successful.

Kind regards

Reference from Bob Philips for Arnold House School

Newland Construction Ltd have successfully completed a Loft Conversion at Arnold House School, St Johns Wood, London NW8, valued at over £400,000. The site available to the contractor was very tight and constrained on all sides making the programming and project execution plan very important to us as the Clients Representative.

The Project commenced whilst the school was in occupation, and continued use of the ground floor during this intricate roof removal, installation of steelwork and new roof and classrooms within the new build, co-ordination was achieved by a continued tried and tested plan between staff and contractor, this alleviated any complaints and minor daily issues were dealt with swiftly and professionally throughout the period of the contract.

We recommend that this company have confidence to complete the works to their own high standards within tight time scales and tricky access.

They are clearly used to working in the education sector and do so with great respect and understanding of the clients needs.

We wish them well in the future and will no doubt see them again on the next project.

“The Newland team made this project a huge success, this was largely down to the collaboration of all involved. Their friendly efficient manner was always appreciated. From the start, communication was regular with weekly site meetings, progress reports and regular updates to the client and ourselves.

This was a large project that involved careful planning, the Newland management team ensured that this was adhered to at all times and were always on hand to deal with any problems, the team were flexible and diligent in their approach and nothing was too much trouble. This led to the project coming in on time and within budget.

The onsite team were always very respectful to the staff and always accommodated the schools needs. Their appearance and manner was always professional and courteous. I would not hesitate in recommending Andrew and his team at Newland Construction Ltd for further projects up to values of £4 to £5 million as this project was well within their scope. Replace cladding panels and window walling at St Albans Girls School

“I write with reference to recent works undertaken by Newland Construction Ltd at St Albans Girls School. We recently tendered for replacement windows across the school following a successful DFE bid for nearly £900,000. Three companies tendered for the works but the tender from Newlands was the most comprehensive and represented best value for money.

As a girls school, it was clear that safeguarding was a priority in addition to the site management and works being undertaken. Immediately Andrew Newland realised that this was of upmost importance for the site team, and all members on site held full DBS disclosures. This meant that from the start there was a real commitment to the works being undertaken effectively and an understanding of working collaboratively to ensure the best possible outcome within the parameters of a safe working environment for all.

On site, the teams, led very effectively by the site manager, worked professionally and with integrity. Newlands were able to complete their tasks, whilst the day to day running of the school ensued without any issues. Any “snagging” was dealt with efficiently, with daily operational site meetings and more formal, fortnightly strategic meetings. During the works, the dialogue ensured that any issues were addressed swiftly. As a result, the windows were concluded over a month ahead of the initial time line but at no cost to the quality of workmanship.

I would strongly recommend the use of Newland Construction as a company whom not only display professional standards of workmanship, but also a clear understanding of the need for effective safeguarding, whilst working in a school environment.”

Works to theatre flooring & roofing works at Aylward Academy

“Newland Construction provided the school with a new Dance/Drama Studio semi-sprung floor. Replacing the existing worn, damaged unsuitable flooring. During the works, it was noticed that the schools existing retractable seating was struggling to retract and extend when in operation. Investigation works revealed that the existing flooring was uneven causing the retractable seating operation issues. During the installation of the flooring, a levelling screed was placed down prior to the final finish to provide a more level surface. Since the new flooring has been installed the school no longer have issues with its operation. There was significant damage being caused due to the existing external double doors allowing driving rain to get under the door and into the flooring. Newland replaced these doors with 60 minute fire doors and incorporated a weather bar to seal the door when closed. A surface water gully was also placed directly outside the doors, feeding into the existing surface water drainage system, to help prevent water build up directly outside the doors. There has since been no water entry through these doors.

The Roof above the Dance/Drama Studio had also previously been leaking, causing damage to the existing flooring below. Newland Construction also undertook the roof repair works to the entire roof area and has since been no further leaks. The Works were carried out during the summer holidays without disruption to the school’s operation. The project was delivered on time and to a high standard. “
